The Lady Hilda Trevelyan rescue fund : manuscript, 1932.

This rescue fund for the actress Hilda Trevelyan was a joke played by Smith. He sent out letters requesting funds which eventually included the printed balance sheet with some real contributors and some farcical. The letter from Sallie E. to Hale discusses the joke and encourages Hale to contribute. Smith was apparently trying to raise the funds for a new overcoat.
